Politecnico di Milano leading a project on natural refrigerants

Glide4Heat research will promote the transformation of heat pump and chiller technologies

Under the coordination of Prof. Luca Molinaroli, the Glide4Heat research project, funded by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) within the framework of Projects of Significant National Interest (PRIN), has officially started. The project aims to revolutionise the use of ecological refrigerants by promoting the use of environmentally friendly technologies.

Researchers from Politecnico di Milano – Department of Energy, the University of Udine and the University of Padova will study mixtures of carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons with the aim of redefining the applications of high temperature heat pumps and chillers in accordance with European environmental regulations.

The project includes both theoretical and experimental activities: among the latter, the tests will be carried out in the Refrigerant Fluids Laboratory of our Department of Energy, where the experimental apparatus has been installed to test the different refrigerant mixtures and to characterise both the system and the compressor.
