Mario Motta at KEY 2026: Politecnico di Milano’s Contribution to MASE Initiatives for the Energy Transition

On 5 March 2026, as part of KEY – The Energy Transition Expo at the Rimini Expo Centre, the institutional event “Energy and Innovation: MASE’s International Cooperation for the Energy Transition” took place. The event was promoted by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) in collaboration with UNDP and UNEP, and implemented with the scientific support of RSE. It provided a platform for discussion on the main international cooperation initiatives supporting decarbonization and the energy transition, bringing together institutional representatives, sector experts, and United Nations agencies.
Representing Politecnico di Milano, Professor Mario Motta, faculty member of the Department of Energy and the Rector’s Delegate for the Energy Transition, took part in the panel dedicated to EPIC Deploy, an initiative focused on the development and deployment of sustainable cooling technologies in high-growth contexts. The programme, with a focus on priority countries including Brazil, Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, and Ethiopia, aims to promote innovative and scalable solutions to reduce the environmental impact of cooling in the tertiary and industrial sectors.

In his speech, Motta emphasized the value of collaboration between institutions, industry, and research in accelerating the adoption of effective solutions: “Public–private models such as EPIC are essential to steer the growth of key economic sectors in developing countries toward sustainable cooling solutions. The cooling market is estimated at around 300 billion dollars per year and is expected to double by 2050: the contribution of universities and research centers is crucial to validate replicable solutions.”
