Gaetani Paolo

Paolo Gaetani, born in Milan, Italy, in 1967, is a Full Professor of Fluid Machinery and works at the Laboratory of Fluid Dynamics of Turbomachinery (LFM). He earned his five-year degree (Laurea) in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. In 1997, he obtained a Ph.D. in Energy Engineering. From 1998 to 2001, he worked as a research collaborator at the Politecnico di Milano, joining the academic staff in 2001, first as an Assistant Professor (Researcher) and later as an Associate Professor and Full Professor.

His research focuses on both the overall and detailed performance characterization, as well as the design aspects, of thermal turbomachinery, with particular emphasis on radial compressors and axial turbines. Experimental research represents a major part of his scientific activity, especially the investigation of aerodynamic interactions between stationary components, such as stators and combustors, and rotating elements.

He has taught several courses in the fields of fluid machinery and energy systems. He currently teaches Turbomachinery and Laboratory of Turbomachinery and Internal Combustion Engines for students in Mechanical, Energy, and Aerospace Engineering.

He has authored more than 130 scientific publications in international and national journals and conference proceedings, and has presented original research at numerous international and national conferences. He has served as coordinator of several competitive national and international research projects and has received three Best Paper Awards for papers presented at the ASME Turbo Expo Conference over the past five years.

He is a member of both the Department Teaching Committee and the Mechanical Engineering Degree Program Committee.
