Lozza Giovanni Gustavo

Giovanni Lozza, born in 1956, has been Full Professor of Energy and Environmental Systems at Politecnico di Milano since 2001. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1980. His research has focused on high-efficiency energy systems with low/zero environmental impact, based on both renewable energy (with studies on solar thermodynamic conversion and geothermal energy since the early 1980s) and fossil fuels, with particular emphasis on advanced natural gas cycles and therefore on applications of “clean coal technologies”, which led to the first pioneering studies on Carbon Capture and Storage, starting in the 1990s. This latter line of research has been continued to the present day by the Gecos research group, of which he was one of the first researchers, with numerous competitive tenders won in the European H2020 and Horizon Europe projects, as well as significant research projects with major national and international companies and institutions in the energy sector.

Prof. Lozza has held important institutional positions at Politecnico di Milano. From 2004 to 2010, he was Coordinator of the Energy Engineering Course, from 2011 to 2018 he was Dean of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering, and since 2020 he has been Director of the Department of Energy. Since 2011, he has been a member of the University’s Academic Senate.
