Grimaccia Francesco

Born in Fabriano (1979), he obtained a high school diploma in classical studies and a degree in engineering from Politecnico di Milano. In 2007, he obtained a PhD in electrical engineering (cum laude). As part of his training, he participated in numerous international courses (University of Maryland, MIT in Boston, TUS in Singapore) on topics related to innovation management and technology transfer from universities to businesses.

In 2004, he received the Young Scientist Award and, starting in 2005, he collaborated with the University of Queensland (Australia) on smart sensor networks for environmental monitoring.

He has participated in numerous projects under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Program (FP7). He has held numerous research contracts with ministries and public and private entities, both in research projects and scientific consulting. He is responsible for several postgraduate master’s programs and advanced training courses for large companies in the energy and ICT sectors. Since 2011, he has been a tenured professor in the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano, and in 2018, he received certification from the MIUR’s ASN national commission as a Full Professor in the field of Electrical Engineering.

In recent years, Prof. F. Grimaccia’s research has focused mainly on topics related to the development of evolutionary numerical optimization methods for the energy sector, the study of innovative energy harvesting devices for electricity production, and the design of remote control techniques (UAV-based) for plant engineering, with forecasting systems for energy production from renewable sources.

He has participated in various activities involving the evaluation of innovative start-ups, project refereeing, and commissions for public lighting and Smart City tenders. Since 2016, he has been responsible for the organizing committee of the annual conference on Radio Networks for Security organized by Politecnico di Milano. He is the author and co-author of over 160 publications in journals, international conference proceedings, and book chapters.

He has received numerous awards and Best Conference Paper awards for papers presented and keynote speeches at international conferences. Since 2016, he has been a Senior Member of the IEEE. He sits on the Board of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
