Passoni Matteo
Matteo Passoni, born in Lodi (Italy) in 1975, is Full Professor of Physics of Matter at the Micro and Nanostructured Materials Laboratory. He graduated in Nuclear Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2000. In 2004 he obtained a PhD in Radiation Science and Technology. He teaches Nuclear Physics and Plasma Physics. He is currently deputy dean of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering and vice-head of the doctoral program in Energy and Nuclear Sciences and Technologies. From 2018 to 2023 he was head of the Course of Studies in Nuclear Engineering. His research interests concern plasma physics, nuclear fusion, materials science and nanotechnology, and applications of nuclear physics. He was principal investigator of the ENSURE (ERC Consolidator grant), INTER and PANTANI (ERC Proof of Concept grant) projects, funded by the European Research Council and dedicated to the development of innovative particle acceleration techniques. He is the scientific responsible of the activities carried out at Politecnico on thermonuclear fusion, also within the European EUROfusion consortium, and of collaborations with companies in various sectors, such as nuclear energy, radiation detectors, electric propulsion. He collaborates with international and national institutes: IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), NEA (Nuclear Energy Agency), ENEA (National Agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development), CNR (National Research Council) and INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics). Among the awards obtained, in 2019 he received the “Edoardo Kramer” Award from the Istituto Lombardo – Academy of Sciences and Letters. Between papers in international scientific journals and book chapters, he is co-author of more than 150 publications. He has been invited as a lecturer and speaker in numerous national and international conferences and research institutes.
