Vincenzo Dossena has been a Full Professor of Fluid Machinery since 2016. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, where he also earned a PhD in Energy Engineering in 1994.
He has served as Deputy Director of the Department of Energy, Coordinator of the PhD Program in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology, and member of the Scientific Committee of the Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel. Since 1998, he has been Head of the Safety Valve Testing Laboratory, and since 2012, of the Laboratory of Fluid Machines (LFM). Since 2015, he has been a member of the Management Committee of the Interdepartmental Laboratory CREA (Laboratory of Compressible-fluid dynamics for Renewable Energy Applications).
His main research interests concern the fluid dynamics of turbomachinery for both conventional and non-conventional applications, with a primarily — though not exclusively — experimental approach. His research activity has been supported by contracts with major companies in the sector as well as by national and international research projects.
In 1998, he founded the Safety Valve Testing Laboratory, dedicated to the study of pressure relief devices. The laboratory supports Italian and European manufacturers in both the R&D and certification phases in compliance with ISO 4126 standards. In this field, he has played a significant role in the development of international technical regulations and has contributed to the scientific literature.
Since 2004, he has been conducting research in the field of wind turbine fluid dynamics: initially focused on vertical-axis machines, his work later expanded to include vertical-axis turbines, with particular attention to floating offshore applications. In this area as well, his activity combines experimental investigations in wind tunnels with computational techniques of varying accuracy.
