Persico Giacomo Bruno A.

Giacomo Persico is Full Professor of Fluid Machines at the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano, where he conducts research and teaching in the fields of turbomachinery fluid dynamics and energy conversion systems.

His research focuses on understanding the thermo-fluid dynamic phenomena governing the operation of turbomachinery and on developing numerical and experimental methodologies for their analysis and design. His activities span axial and radial compressors and turbines, gas turbines operating with alternative fuels, offshore wind energy systems, and innovative energy conversion systems based on non-conventional working fluids, with particular emphasis on technologies supporting the energy transition.

He is involved in several competitive research projects at both European and national levels, serving as Principal Investigator for Politecnico di Milano, carried out in collaborations with Universities, Research Centers, and Industrial Partners. His scientific work combines the investigation of fundamental physical mechanisms with the development of predictive tools to support engineering design, promoting the technology transfer of scientific research outcomes to industrial innovation.

He is the author of more than 200 scientific publications, approximately half of which have appeared in international peer-reviewed journals. He actively contributes to the international scientific community through service on the scientific and editorial boards of international journals and conferences. He has received four ASME Turbo Expo Best Paper Awards, presented by different Technical Committees of the ASME International Gas Turbine Institute.

He serves as a member of the Executive Board of the Department of Energy, Deputy Coordinator of the PhD Program in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology, and member of the Scientific Council of the Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel Facility. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Fluid Machinery and Computational Fluid Dynamics, contributing to the education and supervision of bachelor’s and master’s students, PhD candidates, and early-career researchers.
