D’Errico Gianluca

He has been a member of the Energy Department of the Politecnico di Milano since 2002, first as a Researcher and then as an Associate Professor; since 2016 he has been Full Professor of Fluid Machines. He currently teaches Internal Combustion Engines, a  course of the Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and he is a member of the Department Board and of the Teaching Board of the STEN PhD Programme. His research activity is in the field of internal combustion engine modeling, with particular attention to the thermo-fluid dynamic processes inside the combustion chamber. His interests range from fundamental studies, to improve the understanding of physical and chemical processes, to applied research, aimed at providing computational tools (Gasdyn, LibICE) that can help the design of future engines, including innovative combustion methods and sustainable fuels. His activity is significantly oriented towards the establishment of an international collaborative network of academic and industrial institutions. Author of around 150 scientific publications, he is responsible for numerous research projects and contracts both deriving from direct funding from companies and from national and European tenders. In 2021, together with the other members of the ICEG research group, he founded the Sursum-MI spin-off, focused on providing customized solutions for the simulation and design of internal combustion engines and fluid machines.

Education

Graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Poliltecnico di Milano in 1997, he obtained the title of PhD in Energy in 2001.
