Chiesa Paolo

Paolo Chiesa (born in 1964) since 2016 is full professor of “Energy systems and power generation” at Politecnico di Milano, where he spent his entire academic career, except in 2001 when he worked as visiting research staff member at Princeton University (U.S.A.). He holds an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering (1990) and a PhD in Energy Engineering (1995, thesis awarded with ENEA prize in 1998), both from Politecnico di Milano. His research activity mainly concerns gas turbines and combined cycles, analysis and component design of advanced plants for electricity and hydrogen production from fossil fuels and biomass, CO2 capture and storage, optimization of energy conversion processes, thermodynamic properties of CO2 mixtures, innovative power generation systems. He coined the definition of the SPECCA index which is widely used for the assessment of energy systems with CO2 abatement. Prof. Chiesa directed or collaborated to several projects awarded to Gecos research group by public bodies and private companies. He served as independent expert for the evaluation of research project funded by the US Department of Energy – National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and also for two triennial terms (2009-2014) as associate editor of the “Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power” (Major subject: Electric Power).

Education

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, 1990 Ph.D. In Energy Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, 1995
