Alfani Dario

Dario Alfani is a researcher at Politecnico di Milano, where he obtained his PhD in 2021 after spending a period of research at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Colorado in 2020. He currently teaches “Renewable Energy” in the master’s degree program in Energy Engineering and is a member of the Group of Energy Conversion Systems (GECOS). His research focuses on power generation systems based on unconventional cycles, such as supercritical CO₂ (sCO₂) cycles and organic Rankine cycles (ORC), for applications related to renewable energy and waste heat recovery. In addition, he studies innovative energy storage solutions based on thermodynamic cycles, including Carnot batteries and Pumped Thermal Energy Storage systems. Dario Alfani is the author of approximately 25 articles presented at international conferences or published in peer-reviewed journals. His contribution presented at ASME Turbo Expo 2020 received the prestigious ASME IGTI Best Paper Award, and he also received a special mention at the 29th “Gustavo Sclocchi” Theses Awards and the “NEST Researchers for Research and Innovation” award in 2025. He participates and has actively participated in numerous national and international research projects, including H2020 sCO2-Flex, H2020 CO2OLHEAT, MSCA EASYGO, HEU Powder2Power, PRIN2022 MUSIC, H2020 RESTORE, and HEU SEHRENE. Currently, he coordinates the activities of the Carnot battery working group within SolarPACES TCP.
