Viganò Federico
Assistant Professor in Energy and Environmental Systems since 2008, holding a PhD in Energy Engineering (2008) and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering (2002), both awarded with honours from Politecnico di Milano. He was a visiting researcher at Princeton University (2002/03 and 2007), contributing to studies on mitigating greenhouse gas impacts from fossil‑fuel use.
He carries out a significant part of his scientific activity at the LEAP Laboratory in Piacenza, a Politecnico di Milano spin‑off operating in the energy and environmental sectors. His research interests include material and energy recovery from waste and residual streams; design and assessment of waste‑management systems; and analysis of conventional, advanced, and complex energy‑conversion systems, including CO₂ capture technologies.
He is a member of the steering committee of the Mater Study Centre since its foundation in 2011, a LEAP initiative providing scientifically grounded insight into waste‑management methods and technologies. He is also a member of the Italian Committee of the International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF) and has contributed to the interdisciplinary committee on waste and health (CIRS) as coordinator of the working group on thermal waste treatments.
He works professionally as consultant, including technical advisor to civil and administrative courts, technical consultant in criminal investigations, and valuation expert in liquidation procedures. He has served as party-appointed expert in commercial disputes and as specialist for the Italian State Attorney’s Office in international arbitrations under the Energy Charter Treaty.
