The Department of Energy at EMP-A 2025 with MicroGridsPy

From 28 April to 9 May 2025, Nicolò Stevanato and Riccardo Mereu represented the Department of Energy of hPolitecnico di Milano at the Energy Modelling Platform for Africa 2025 (EMP-A 2025), held at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The participation was part of the track dedicated to MicroGridsPy, an open-source tool co-developed and maintained by our Department within the SESAM Sustainable Energy Systems Analysis and Modelling research group, aimed at optimising the design of mini-grids for access to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa.

GraphiCore recognised among emerging startups and for innovation in nuclear energy

The start-up GraphiCore, born from a research project of the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, has recently received important international recognition.
During the Hello Tomorrow 2025 event, among more than 4,600 participating start-ups, GraphiCore was selected as a finalist in the “Emerging Deeptech Pioneers” category, an initiative that promotes early-stage start-ups with strong scientific or business potential. This recognition highlights GraphiCore’s ability to innovate in the field of radioactive waste dismantling and management, with safe and cost-effective solutions.

Training and the future of nuclear energy: the experience of the Specializing Master in Nuclear Safeguards at the FISA–EURADWASTE conference

From 12 to 16 May 2025, the 11th edition of the Euratom Conferences on Fission Reactor Systems Safety Research and Training (FISA) and on Radioactive Waste Management (EURADWASTE) took place in Warsaw. The conference, aimed at fostering collaboration for sustainable and safe nuclear solutions, was organized under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and co-organized by SNETP (Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform), ENEN (European Nuclear Education Network), ENS (European Nuclear Society) and ENS-YGN (European Nuclear Society – Young Generation Network).

Polimi Nautical Hub 2025: a day dedicated to innovation and sustainability in the nautical sector

On 4 April 2025, the first edition of Polimi Nautical Hub took place at the Bovisa La Masa Campus of Politecnico di Milano, an event open to the public and entirely dedicated to innovation and sustainability in the nautical sector. The initiative was organised and promoted by the Physis PEB (Polimi Energy Boat) student team, founded in 2021 thanks to the collaboration between the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Energy at Politecnico di Milano.

An article from the Department of Energy on the cover of Energy Advances

The article “Novel Electrified Sorption Enhanced Reforming Process for Blue Hydrogen Production”, authored by Abdelrahman Mostafa, Alessandra Beretta, Gianpiero Groppi, Enrico Tronconi and Matteo C. Romano – professors and researchers at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano – has been selected for the cover of the international scientific journal Energy Advances, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Corporate Specializing Master in collaboration with Ansaldo Nucleare kicks off

The Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano will manage the delivery of the new Corporate Master’s Degree in “Technologies for Nuclear Power Plants”, developed in partnership with Ansaldo Nucleare and in collaboration with CIRTEN (International Consortium for Nuclear Technology Research), the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the DIME (Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management and Transport Engineering) of the University of Genoa.
