On June 11–12, 2026, the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano took part in the third edition of the INAET Conference, held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. During the event, which focused on Africa’s energy transition, Riccardo Mereu participated in the panel dedicated to education, knowledge, and skills development as key drivers of energy sustainability.

In his presentation, he highlighted Politecnico di Milano’s experience in international training programs, capacity building, and scientific cooperation initiatives developed with African partners through projects such as LEAP-RE, SHARE_Africa, and the UNESCO Chair in Energy for Sustainable Development.

The Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano coordinates **PROCEED**, a European project funded by **Horizon Europe** and the **Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking** to accelerate the development of **PCCEL technology**, a new generation of proton-conducting ceramic electrolysers for the production of green hydrogen.

H-DUAL: the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano contributes to the development of an innovative solution for the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport

The H-DUAL project explores the use of hydrogen in heavy-duty vehicles through a dual-fuel technology that combines hydrogen and HVO. Thanks to simulations developed by the Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano, it has been demonstrated that the system can replace up to 30% of the engine’s energy demand with hydrogen, reducing CO₂ emissions and particulate matter without requiring substantial modifications to the original engine architecture. H-DUAL represents a concrete solution to accelerate the decarbonization of heavy-duty freight transport through the progressive integration of hydrogen into existing engines.

From 18 to 20 May 2026, Brussels hosted the CCSE Stakeholder Forum 2026, an event of the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy partnership that brought together experts, researchers, and policymakers from Europe and Africa to address the challenges of the energy transition and climate change. The Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano participated with Emanuela Colombo and Riccardo Mereu, involved in the LEAP-ENERGY+ project, a program aimed at strengthening Euro-African cooperation in the field of sustainable energy.During the sessions, results and new initiatives were presented, addressing topics such as renewables, hydrogen, energy storage, and electric mobility, with particular attention to technology transfer and public policies. The Forum also contributed to the definition of the CCSE 2028–2034 roadmap for cooperation between the European Union and the African Union.

POLIMI European Patent Litigation Certificate 2026

On 21 May, the 2026 edition of the POLIMI European Patent Litigation Certificate course successfully concluded.

The training programme was designed to prepare graduates in technical and scientific disciplines, already qualified as European Patent Attorneys, to obtain the additional qualification of UPC Representative.

The six‑month course involved 62 European Patent Attorneys from across Europe and concluded with three days of in‑person practical exercises at the Department of Energy, followed by the final examination required to obtain the qualification.
