The research project AURIGA – Unveiling the RIddles of GAs-liquid fluid dynamics: towards novel carbon dioxide absorption systems, supervised by Giorgio Besagni, Associate Professor at the Departmentof Energy of Politecnico di Milano, has received funding of more than €1.5M under the FIS 2 Call for Proposals of the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
The eighth edition of the International Conference on System Reliability and Safety (ICSRS 2024) www.icsrs.org , a landmark event for the international scientific community in the field of system reliability and safety, was held in Sicily from 20 to 22 November 2024. The conference was co-sponsored by the IEEE Reliability Society (Italy Chapter) and was attended by experts from all over the world. Among the topics covered: artificial intelligence and advanced simulation for reliability, safety, resilience of complex systems.
On 18 February 2025, Prof. Marco Ricotti, lecturer in Nuclear Plants at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano and president of the CIRTEN Consortium, took part in the conference “The new sustainable nuclear power: an opportunity for Italy?”, held in the Sala della Lupa at the Chamber of Deputies. The event, promoted by MP Riccardo Zucconi in collaboration with the Fratelli d’Italia Group in Montecitorio, brought together experts, institutional representatives and companies in the sector to discuss the role of nuclear power in the country’s energy future.
European case law on trade marks and designs provides an important guide to applying and interpreting European laws on these issues, setting precedents, clarifying crucial legal aspects and creating consistency in regulations.

The paper “Multi-pulse Active Substation for Power Quality Improvement and Recovery of Regenerative Braking Energy in DC Railway”, written by Hamed Jafari Kaleybar, Morris Brenna and Dario Zaninelli, received a Best Paper Award at the IEEE ICHQP 2024 (International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power), held in Chengdu (China) from 15 to 18 October 2024.
Professors Michela Longo and Alberto Dolara, lecturers at the Energy Department of the Politecnico di Milano, received the Special Session Organisers’ Award at the SMART 2024 – Third International Conference on Sustainable Mobility Applications, Renewables, and Technology, held in Dubai from 22 to 24 November 2024.
Three lecturers from the Energy Department of the Politecnico di Milano recently carried out a mobility period at the University of Danang (Vietnam) as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 programme. Professors Alberto Berizzi, Valentin Ilea and Gabriele D’Antona gave lectures on key topics for the energy sector: renewable energy production plants, the electricity market and electrical measurements.
Since 2024, the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano has been participating in the international MEDFASEE project, an initiative started in 2003 in Brazil at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and aimed at the advanced monitoring of electricity grids through the installation of Phase Measurement Units (PMUs). To date, the project has led to the commissioning of more than 20 PMUs in Brazil, a dozen in Argentina and Chile and, more recently, four in Europe (Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Italy).
