Restart of wind tunnel tests of the offshore wind turbine prototype of the PNRR NEST project
Experimental tests on the prototype of a vertical-axis wind turbine installed on a robot simulating the motion of a floating offshore platform restarted at the Politecnico di Milano wind tunnel. The activity is part of the PNRR project NEST – Network for Energy Sustainable Transition (funded by the EU– NEXTGenerationEU) and specifically as part of Spoke 2 “Energy harvesting & Offshore renewable”.
Matteo Maestri receives the “Giorgio Squinzi” Medal from the Italian Chemical Society
On October 31, at the Mapei Auditorium in Milan, Matteo Maestri, professor in the Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano, received the “Giorgio Squinzi” Medal awarded by the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) – Division of Industrial Chemistry, in memory of entrepreneur Giorgio Squinzi, who passed away in 2019.
Delegation from the Department of Energy visits Huawei research centers in China
In October, a delegation from the Electrical Systems for Energy research group was hosted by Huawei at its research centers in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Shanghai.
Professor Maurizio Delfanti, from the Department of Energy, together with researchers Filippo Bovera and Giuliano Rancilio, had the opportunity to visit the main sites where Huawei carries out technological development and experimental activities on electrochemical storage systems and power conversion systems serving batteries and photovoltaic plants.

Riccardo Colombo, PhD candidate at the Laboratory of Catalysis and Catalytic Processes within the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano, received the Best Student Presentation Award at the Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Symposium (CARES) 2025, held from 25 to 27 September at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (Chennai, India), one of the country’s most prestigious research institutions.

Celebrating the First Graduates of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master HySET
On Friday, October 10th, the graduation ceremony of the first cohort of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master program Hydrogen Systems and Enabling Technologies (HySET) took place at the Castello del Valentino in Turin. The program is dedicated to training professionals with multidisciplinary knowledge in the hydrogen sector.
Department of Energy hosts the annual meeting of the european MARPOWER project
On 23–24 September 2025, the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano hosted the General Assembly of the European MARPOWER project at the EN:lab building on the Bovisa Campus. The project is funded under Horizon Europe (Grant Agreement No. 101138341).
Prof. Emanuele Martelli’s team wins the Eni Award for Innovation 2025 in the Digital category
The research project “An innovative Multi-Energy Systems design and optimization tool for evaluating decarbonization opportunities”, the result of a collaboration between researchers from Eni and Plenitude (S. Sala, A. Amendola, G. Gioco, M. Primato, T. Audino, M. Di Marco) and the team coordinated by Prof. Emanuele Martelli (Vincenzo Dipierro, Lorenzo Pilotti, Andrea Zelaschi, Alessandro F. Castelli) from the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano, has won the Eni Award for Innovation 2025 in the Digital category.
Research and Innovation: at the Department of Energy the STEN PhD Course Poster Session
On October 2, 2025, the Department of Energy organized the annual Poster Session dedicated to second-year students of the PhD Course “Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology (STEN).”
Thirty-nine PhD candidates presented the progress of their research projects through posters in front of the Faculty Board, colleagues, and the entire Department community, in an event that involved more than 100 participants.
