Leva Sonia 

Sonia Leva graduated with honours in Electrical Engineering in 1997 from Politecnico di Milano, and obtained her PhD in 2001. In 1999, she was appointed Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of Politecnico di Milano in SSD I17X (Electrical Engineering). She is currently Full Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Department of Energy. Sonia Leva’s scientific activity concerns: modelling and synthesis of complex devices and systems for electrical engineering; numerical, physical and hybrid methods for predicting the power generated by photovoltaic and wind power systems, estimating the health and life of batteries; the analysis and optimisation of multi-physical micro-grids. Her research has resulted in over 300 scientific publications, published in national and international journals or presented at international conferences. She also holds two international patents. Sonia Leva has received several awards and recognitions for her research. She is also Editor and Associate Editor of several international journals. She has been invited to give several speeches (plenary sessions, tutorials, keynotes) at various universities/institutions around the world. Sonia Leva is responsible for research contracts between Politecnico di Milano and public bodies and private companies. She is and has been responsible for research contracts related to European, national and regional funding on a competitive basis. Sonia Leva is co-founder of the SolarTech Lab and the MultiGood MicroGrid lab (MG2lab) of the Department of Energy – Politecnico di Milano, where she is scientific director and coordinates the activities carried out in collaboration with various professors, researchers, research fellows and doctoral students from different scientific disciplines. She is the founder of a start-up. Sonia Leva has been president of the National Electrotechnical Group since 2025.
