Faculty Members of the Department of Energy at the “Huawei FusionSolar Italy C&I Summit 2025”

Several faculty members from the Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano took part in the Huawei FusionSolar Italy C&I Summit 2025, held on 20–21 November in Venice. The event brought together experts in commercial and industrial photovoltaics, with a special focus on integrated PV+BESS systems, digitalization, and new energy management solutions.

The delegation from the Politecnico – consisting of Prof. Sonia Leva, Prof. Emanuele Ogliari, and PhD candidate Riccardo Ramaschi – contributed to the technical sessions. In particular, Prof. Ogliari presented three years of research on the safety of photovoltaic plants and storage systems, illustrating case studies related to electric vehicle charging and Energy Communities. He also provided an early preview of the 2026 White Paper dedicated to the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of PV-Storage systems for C&I applications.
The Summit offered an updated overview of the sector’s outlook and an important opportunity for discussion with Italian energy operators.

Enrico Zio Keynote at AI STAR 2025 of the European Space Agency

Prof. Enrico Zio from Politecnico di Milano was a keynote speaker at AI STAR 2025 of the European Space Agency in Darmstadt, presenting “AI for Maintenance,” a talk on how artificial intelligence can improve the reliability, safety, and sustainability of complex systems. His participation highlighted the work of LASAR³ in developing advanced AI methodologies for industrial and space applications. Now in its third edition, the event brings together experts from industry, academia, and research, creating an international forum to discuss the transformative potential of AI.

GraphiCore wins the 2025 National Innovation Award in the Industrial category

GraphiCore, a spin-off of the Politecnico di Milano, has won the 2025 National Innovation Award in the Industrial category. The startup develops innovative solutions to make the dismantling of graphite nuclear reactors safer and more efficient, reducing radiological risks. The recognition confirms the Department of Energy’s commitment to cutting-edge research, technological transfer, and the creation of high-impact enterprises.

Enrico Zio in Chile for a series of lectures and meetings on the reliability assessment of industrial systems and the management of critical infrastructure resilience

Professor Enrico Zio from the Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano visited Chile, where he delivered lectures, meetings, and a lectio magistralis on the reliability assessment of industrial systems and the management of critical infrastructure resilience, further strengthening scientific collaboration with PUCV.

Challenges of the energy transition and lessons from blackouts: two Terna seminars within the course on Electric Power Systems

On 21 and 25 November, as part of the “Electric Power Systems” course module in the Master’s Degree Programme in Electrical Engineering, two in-depth seminars were held. The events were organized by Professor Alberto Berizzi, faculty member of the Department of Energy and course instructor of the course module, in collaboration with Terna Spa, the Transmission System Operator of the Italian electricity grid.
The initiative, strongly supported by Professor Berizzi, offered students a unique opportunity to engage with experts from one of the leading TSOs at the international level.
