The Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano hosted the fourth plenary meeting of the European EFACA project, dedicated to the development of technologies for sustainable aviation.
Elisa Emanuele, a PhD student at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, won the ENEA “Bruno Scrosati” Award for an innovative project on new-generation batteries.

On 10 April 2025, the final ceremony of the Smart Grids Executive Programme, the advanced professional training course organised by the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with E-Distribuzione, was held in Rome, in the ENEL auditorium. The programme, directed by Prof. Marco Merlo, was created to address future challenges in the field of distribution and to train new experts capable of guiding the energy transition and network innovation, contributing to the design of increasingly resilient and sustainable smart grids.
On 7 April 2025, the final ceremony of the fifth edition of the Master’s Degree in Energy Innovation was held, organised by the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with ENI: a moment to celebrate a higher education programme that began in 2018.
On March 26th, the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano hosted the final event of the URBEM (Urban Reference Buildings for Energy Modelling) project, a Nationally Relevant Research Project (PRIN) funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). Coordinated by Prof. Francesco Causone from the Department of Energy, the project involved ten Italian universities with the aim of developing a database of reference buildings (archetypes) to support energy simulation at the urban scale.
Riccardo Chebac and Giovanni Zullo, PhD researchers at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, are among the winners of the Italian PhD Nuclear Talent Award 2025, a competition that rewards the best doctoral theses in the nuclear field.
On Wednesday, 12 March 2025, the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano organised a course entitled “Journey into CO₂ Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS): a solution for decarbonisation in industry and beyond”, aimed at journalists interested in energy and sustainability issues.
The I-FERME project (Intelligent Infrastructure Design for a Multifunctional Efficient Farm), funded by the Polisocial Award (ed. 2022), aims to upgrade the infrastructure of a multifunctional farm in the village of Mpangala, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 2024, Politecnico di Milano, with the fundamental contribution of the Department of Energy, launched an intensive initiative aimed at installing photovoltaic systems on its roofs. By the end of 2024, approximately 1.4 MW had been installed and was operational, equal to 40% of the target set by the University in its Strategic Plan.
