Guandalini Giulio
Giulio Guandalini, graduated with honors from Politecnico di Milano in 2012 and obtained his Ph.D. in Energy and Nuclear Technologies in 2016. Currently, he holds the position of Senior Researcher (RTDb) at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano. His expertise lies in the techno-economic simulation of complex energy systems, particularly hydrogen systems (electrolyzers and fuel cells), applied to energy storage and to the synthesis of alternative fuels. The approach used involves the optimization of systems coupled with random renewable sources, various alternatives for transportation (e.g., simulation of injection into the natural gas grid, conversion to synthetic liquid fuels), and the use of hydrogen in stationary systems and the transportation sector. He is responsible for technical and organizational activities in several European projects related to the hydrogen and biofuels sector (H2TRUST, DEMCOPEM, GRASSHOPPER, FLEDGED, BUTTERFLY) and was the coordinator for the H2020 CONVERGE project (2018–2022), focusing on biomethanol synthesis. Actively collaborating with various industrial entities for the development of Power-to-Gas systems and the optimization of the natural gas grid in the presence of alternative gases. He is a thesis advisor for Master’s degree students in the fields of hydrogen, Power-to-X systems, and energy storage. Lecturer at post-graduate courses on hydrogen systems, Power-to-Gas technologies, biogas upgrading and micro-cogeneration. Since 2016, he has been in charge of the course “Energy and Emission in Transportation Systems” for master’s degree students in Mobility Engineering, focusing on alternative energies for the transportation sector.
