Najafi Behzad
Behzad Najafi, born in 1987, is a Tenure-track Assistant Professor (RTDb) at the Energy Department of Politecnico di Milano, Italy. His research activities are mainly focused on the application of physical and physics-inspired machine learning-based modelling of indoor environments and HVAC systems to enable real-time optimization of HVAC operation management strategies. These activities are aimed at achieving energy saving in buildings and district heating networks, facilitating demand flexibility in grid-interactive buildings and enabling their participation in flexibility markets, along with balancing the electric vehicles’ charging as well as self-consumption (from on-site renewable generation) enhancement. In addition, he carries out research activities on smart meter-driven machine learning-based remote auditing of buildings and HVAC load disaggregation. He had also previously conducted several research projects dedicated to optimization of fuel cell-based micro-generation systems and techno-economic feasibility assessment of hybrid stand-alone generation units for small communities. In the context of these activities, he has published 39 journal articles and he has been the main supervisor of 3 PhD theses (2 ongoing) and over 30 M.Sc. thesis projects.
