Martelli Emanuele

Emanuele Martelli is currently Associate Professor of Energy Systems at Politecnico di Milano. After the degree in mechanical engineering (Politecnico di Milano), he started  the PhD in Energy Engineering at Politecnico di Milano making part of the activities at Princeton University. After a short post-doc period, in December 2011 he was appointed Assistant Professor (tenured). In 2014 he was invited professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne  and in 2016 he was invited professor at ETH Zurich to work on the optimization of novel energy systems and CO2 capture processes. Currently he is coordinating a team of researchers working on development of models and algorithms for the numerical optimization of CO2 capture processes (with particular focus on oxy-combustion plants such as the Allam cycle and the SOS-CO2 cycle), process heat integration, microgrids, multi-energy systems, and virtual power plants. Prof. Martelli is principal investigator of several research projects funded by leading energy companies and international funding agencies. Moreover, prof. Martelli was part of the teams who won the GE GHG Ecomagination Award in 2015 and the Eni Innovation Award in 2025. He is coauthor of more than 150 international publications and 3 international patents.
