Bonalumi Davide
He is an Associate Professor of Energy and Environmental Systems. He holds a degree in Environmental Engineering and earned a PhD in Energy Engineering.
His research focuses on process engineering and the techno-economic-environmental assessment of innovative technologies aimed at improving efficiency and decarbonizing energy systems and industrial processes. In particular, he is involved in the development and evaluation of solutions applied to power generation and energy-intensive industrial sectors, including cement plants, steelworks, refineries, hydrogen production, biofuels, and e-fuels. The effectiveness of the technologies under investigation is assessed through approaches based on the thermodynamic and chemical analysis of processes, techno-economic analysis, and life cycle assessment (LCA).
His research contributes both to advancing the technological maturity of innovative solutions and to supporting end users in defining decarbonization strategies for specific industrial processes. In this field, Davide Bonalumi has developed expertise in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), transportation, hydrogen production, advanced fuels and biofuels, and the electrification of energy systems with high shares of renewable energy sources.
He has participated in European and international projects awarded through competitive funding calls and is actively involved in industrial research. He is the author of more than 70 scientific publications and teaches the courses Energy Systems and Fundamentals of Energy Conversion.
