Russo Valeria
Valeria Russo is Associate Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the Department of Energy of the Politecnico di Milano. She graduated in Nuclear Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 1995 and obtained her PhD in Science and Technology of Nuclear Plants in 1999. She teaches Physics of Matter and Atomic Physics in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs at the Politecnico di Milano and has been lecturer for the doctoral module “Two-dimensional (2D) Materials” within the PhD program in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology (STEN).
She is a member of the Doctoral Board of the STEN PhD program and of the Degree Program Boards in Nuclear Engineering and Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology. She is also scientific and safety manager of the activities and Raman spectroscopy laboratories of the NanoLab (Micro and Nanostructured Materials Laboratory) of the Department of Energy.
Her research interests include multi-wavelength Raman spectroscopy, nanostructured and two-dimensional materials, light–matter interactions, functional interfaces, and advanced characterization of materials for energy applications. Her scientific activity is particularly focused on the correlation between morphology, optical properties, and spectroscopic response in nanostructured materials and low-dimensional systems.
She participates in numerous national and international projects, including the EUROfusion program and the PNRR-NEST program. She collaborates with national and international institutions and infrastructures such as IAEA, CNR, IIT, CERN, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, and LASA-INFN.
In 2010 she received the “Women at Work in Research and Technological Development – Energy Sector” award promoted by the Province of Milan for research activities on nanostructured materials for third-generation solar cells. She is author of more than 100 scientific publications in international journals and serves as referee for numerous journals in the fields of condensed matter physics, spectroscopy, and materials science.
