Lorenzi Stefano

Stefano Lorenzi, born in 1986, is Associate Professor of Nuclear Power Plants at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics Engineering in 2008 and his Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering in 2011 from Politecnico di Milano, graduating cum laude, and earned his Ph.D. cum laude in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology in 2015. His academic path was enriched by a period as Visiting Student at the SISSA MathLab in Trieste in 2015.

Since 2011, his research activity has focused on control-oriented simulation of nuclear power plants and on the development of advanced control schemes, with particular emphasis on the multiphysics analysis of Generation IV nuclear reactors, in particular Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFRs) and Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs). His research also addresses hybrid nuclear systems and their integration with cogeneration applications and renewable energy sources in low-carbon energy scenarios.

He is Principal Investigator for Politecnico di Milano in the SELENE and RocketRoll projects, which explore the use of nuclear energy for space applications, and in the PRIN GREEN-ENERGY project on hydrogen production from nuclear energy. Since 2024, he has been Coordinator of the European project ENDURANCE for the development of molten salt reactor technology.

Education

M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, 2011.
Ph.D. in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology, Politecnico di Milano, 2015.
